I got this product for a January camping trip. I went with the single layer vs double because AZ tends to be warmer than average (but still frozen with snow where we went). However, I could have used the double layer on my trip for sure. At the very least, it makes a great base layer in very cold weather and good stand-alone to keep sun/sand out or stay warm in chilly weather. I suspect that, with goggles, it would be great in a sandstorm. It isnt as intimidating as a ski mask (and the tan color helped) so that is a plus depending on what you are going for. I like the variety of ways you can wear a balaclava. Aside from the normal configuration, I can just pull down the face part to eat or drink or pull back the top for wearing a hat (if it doesnt just fit over the top). The fit was good and I think I have a medium sized head. There was some room to spare so it would probably fit if I had a bigger head too. A tiny bit snug on the nose.
