ANSI

Return to Glossary
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.

How do ANSI standards relate to flame resistant clothing?

HARD HATS: Our hard hats meet ANSI Z89.1, Type 2, Class E. The "American National Standard for Industrial Head Protection" defines Type 2 as lateral impact protection, and Class E as able to withstand 20,000 volts. Type 2 has also been called Level 2 - do not confuse this with Level 2 as related to NFPA 70E.

FACESHIELDS: Arc-rated faceshields at FRSafety are certified to ANSI Z87.1. Faceshields that are certified compliant to this ANSI standard have passed multiple impact, penetration and other tests.

HIGH VISIBILITY CLOTHING: Clothing compliant to ANSI 107 meets regulations defining brightness of background materials and reflective properties of tape.
